Manchester City agree fee with Eintracht Frankfurt for Omar Marmous

Manager Pep Guardiola said he regretted turning down the chance to strengthen Manchester City’s squad in the summer.

However, the defending champions have been very active in the ongoing January transfer window.

City are reportedly closing in on a move for EIntracht Frankfurt star Omar Marmoush.

This is according to BBC Sport who report a verbal agreement has been reached between the clubs over a permanent move for the 25-year-old.

The Egypt international has been earning rave reviews with his performances in the Bundesliga this season. He has already scored 15 goals in the German top-flight, where he is just one goal behind the league’s top scorer Harry Kane.

Marmoush joined Frankfurt from Wolfsburg in the summer of 2023 on a free transfer.

His stocks have greatly increased since his arrival at the Waldstadion, making 67 appearances in all competitions and scoring 37 goals.

More signings expected

Manchester City’s levels have massively dropped this season.

Losing 10 of their 21 matches, the Citizens are currently languishing in sixth place in the Premier League table.

City were on course for a comfortable win against Brentford in midweek after Phil Foden’s double in the second-half.

But the Bees made a brilliant comeback to salvage a draw, with Yoanne Wissa and Christian Norgaard getting their names on the scoresheet.

To save their season, Gardiola is now looking to add some quality players to his squad.

Apart from Marmoush, the English champions are also expected to conclude a deal for Brazilian teenager Vitor Reis, who is flying in for a medical to complete his move from Palmeiras.

They are also attempting to sign Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso, though talks are not said to be at an advanced stage.

City have reached an agreement with Lens for Uzbekistan defender Abdukodir Khusanov, but they haven’t announced the signing yet.
