City take on Stoke at the weekend and it will hopefully provide Shaun Wright-Phillips with the chance to re-ignite his season.
It has been a difficult time for SWP and the signing of Adam Johnson has increased the pressure on both him and left winger Martin Petrov, with the latter rumoured to have been joining Everton on transfer deadline day. It is a situation that has seen SWP seeing more games from the subs bench than on the pitch.
Johnson is unavailable for Saturday’s game as he played against the blues for Middlesbrough in the third round and SWP will be hoping to get the nod ahead of Petrov. However Craig Bellamy, who has played on the left for City this season, is also available after missing Tuesday’s win over Bolton as he was in London for a check up on his troublesome knee.
If SWP does get to start against the Potters, he will be aiming to regain some of the form which helped him to break into the England squad, particularly with the World Cup in South Africa just a few months away.
