West Ham United looking to sign Manchester City’s Yangel Herrera

West Ham United’s pursuit of Manchester City outcast Yangel Herrera has received a massive boost, according to The Telegraph.

The Cityzens are looking to get rid of some deadwood in the summer to raise upwards of £100million and avoid the prospect of selling senior stars.

The Premier League betting favourites for the 2021/22 season, City are looking to up the ante for those interested in live football by signing key reinforcements this summer, and that will necessitate raising funds and reducing the wage bill.

Jack Harrison has already signed a permanent deal at Leeds United while Angelino moved to RB Leipzig on a long-term contract.

Young striker Lukas Nmecha is on the brink of completing an £11.2million switch to Wolfsburg following a solid season-long loan at Anderlecht.

However, their transfer could be an overture for a massive exodus, with the reigning Premier League champions aiming to ship out the likes of Herrera and several other fringe players.

The English heavyweights are expected to have a busy summer after landing their eyes on Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane and Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish.

City are entertaining the idea of splashing out around £215m to bring in the star duo as they hope to make a decisive push for the Champions League trophy next term.

However, they will need to sort the outgoings first, and Herrera could fall victim to Pep Guardiola’s eye-watering plans.

The 23-year-old joined City from Atletico Venezuela in 2017, but he has not made a single competitive appearance for Guardiola’s side.

Yet, Herrera enjoyed an eye-catching two-season loan at Granada, helping the La Liga minnows reach the Europa League quarter-finals back in 2020/21.

Despite his impressive displays in Spain, the Venezuelan has no future at the Etihad and will move on in the coming weeks.

Though several La Liga sides already follow Herrera with great attention, his future could be lying in the Premier League.

Crystal Palace, Southampton and West Ham are embroiled in the transfer race for the combative box-to-box midfielder, with the latter spearheading the chase.

After qualifying for the 2021/22 Europa League group stages, the Hammers are in the market for new additions as they hope to remain competitive on multiple fronts.

Even though the club decided to fend off all suitors for sought-after Declan Rice, David Moyes wants to bring in a new midfielder in the summer.

Herrera is one of the profiles the ex-Manchester United boss has on his radar.

With two years left to run on his current contract at City, the Venezuela international will command a reasonable price tag in the ongoing transfer window.

West Ham could raise funds to sign Herrera from Felipe Anderson’s departure, with the Brazilian on the cusp of returning to Lazio.
